Back-to-school time can be exciting, but for some students, it can be a time of uncertainty and fear as they face a potentially unwelcoming environment. Every student deserves a safe environment to learn and thrive. We’re doing everything we can to make sure every LGBTQ young person has that safe space so they can succeed in the classroom and beyond.

We invite you to join our second annual Reading Challenge in honor of the back-to-school season! For the month of September, we challenge you to read at least 25 minutes a day and log your reading time on Facebook. Get some reading done, connect with Trevor community also doing the challenge, and raise money to support LGBTQ young people, all at the same time!

Last year’s Reading Challenge saw over 3 million minutes recorded, and together, we raised over $300,000 for our mission! Let’s keep that momentum going for this year’s challenge.

This moment couldn’t be more critical to step up and support LGBTQ young people. In 2023, over 500 anti-LGBTQ bills (a record number) were introduced in state houses across the country. Many of these bills impact LGBTQ young people at school, what they can learn about, and what they can talk about. School shouldn’t be a scary, unwelcoming place. LGBTQ young people deserve safe schools — help us make that happen.

Follow these simple steps to join our Reading Challenge:

Register in Facebook Messenger now to log your minutes all month.

Follow this link and we’ll automatically create a fundraiser with all the right settings on your behalf. You can edit the details on Facebook upon creation.

Have a Question? Check out the FAQs for our Facebook Challenges!

If you can’t find your answer below, please reach out to [email protected] additional help. Please be patient and allow us up to 24-48 hours to respond.

Q: When and how do I log my minutes?

A: You’ll be able to start logging minutes on the first day of the month, but you can join the Reading Challenge group and start your fundraiser right away. You can log your miles in Messenger by typing “Menu” then enter, and click the “Record minutes” button, then enter your achieved minutes and click the word “Submit.” Please note that the menu has multiple tiles.

Q: What if my minutes are incorrect or I receive an error?

A: To correct your total activity in Messenger, type “Menu” then enter, click on “Record minutes” and then click “Edit my total minutes.” Let us know if you still experience issues.

Q: How do we participate as a team?

A: When you register in Messenger, you will be prompted to take on the challenge solo or as a team. Follow the prompts to build out your team!

Q: Can I do a different activity?

A: While the challenge is designed for reading, if you want to do another activity, you’re more than welcome.

Q: What do I do if I started a Facebook fundraiser for The Trevor Project but not specifically for the challenge?

A: A Facebook fundraiser for The Trevor Project is the same as a fundraiser for this challenge. Thanks for supporting Trevor’s mission.

Thank you so much for your support, and best of luck with the challenge!

Celebrating our Trevor Interns for Intern Appreciation Day

In 2023, The Trevor Project had the pleasure of welcoming eight paid interns to our community, allowing them to bring their talents and stories to our community of champions for LGBTQ young people. Their passion and excitement helped us see Trevor through fresh eyes and see new possibilities in our work.  Trevor Interns Gciniwe and Trey shared their experiences working with us this summer: “Interning at the Trevor Project has been an absolute highlight of my summer. The members of the Content team have been incredibly welcoming and supportive. Initially, I didn't fully comprehend the extent of The Trevor Project's…

From Suffrage to Support: Expanding the Definition of Women’s Empowerment

For over a century, the fight for women’s rights has been marked by both remarkable progress and ongoing challenges. From the suffragists who fought for the right to vote to today’s advocates working for equal pay, reproductive rights, and greater representation, women’s history is a story of resilience, breaking barriers, and expanding opportunities for all.   As we reflect during Women’s History Month, it’s essential to recognize that empowerment is ever-evolving — and that growth must include celebrating and uplifting LGBTQ+ voices. Historically, women’s rights movements have often centered on the experiences of white, cisgender, heterosexual women, leaving LGBTQ+ women, nonbinary…
